DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, December 6 the beautiful carved front doors of Hammond-Harwood House will be opened and guests will be welcomed into the house to be the first to see the decorated rooms. \nA Very Maryland Yuletide \nJoin the Hammond-Harwood House Museum for a special Holiday season where art\, design\, and the beautiful state of Maryland come together. Local garden clubs create an inspirational floral design with faux and dried pieces inspired by the period room’s architecture and collections. Decorating has been a yearly tradition since 1953 and we invite you to enjoy Annapolis’ architectural jewel during this festive season.  \nThe party will continue in the historic kitchen\, where delectable festive and historic treats can be paired with a variety of fine wines and wassail. \nGreat Cake\, Buttermilk Biscuits from the recipe in Maryland’s Way (page 25 in the 13th printing from 1966) served with country ham and homemade preserves by:\nA Taste of History with Joyce White \nIn the spring of 1825 Mrs. Frances Loockerman decided to create a very special boxwood garden behind her mansion on Maryland Avenue. The “box walk” was planted in the shape of a heart. Since 1953 the museum’s many volunteers have created special holiday boxwood wreaths. DESCRIPTION:90 minute program for children. \nFamilies are invited to the mansion for a day of holiday stories and crafts. Children will enjoy story-time amidst the splendor of the ballroom decorated for the season. After the story children will be invited to our activity classroom where they will create holiday decorations and learn about an early Maryland Christmas tradition.

SUMMARY:From Novice to Knowledgeable: Unwrapping Chocolate’s Secrets
DESCRIPTION:Presented by A Taste of History with Joyce White \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO! Prepare for the whirlwind experience that is the annual Annapolis Chocolate Binge Festival at this informative\, tasty\, and interactive program. \nMaryland was one of the only colonies south of the Mason-Dixon line to be home to a chocolate maker in the 18th century. Attend this program to find out where he worked and more interesting chocolate facts to make you a true chocolate connoisseur. Participants will get hands-on when they grind cacao nibs into chocolate the way it would have been done in the 18th century. Different types of cacao and the history of chocolate processing from the pre-industrial days to the modern-day will also be explored\, and\, at each step in the process\, different types of chocolates will be sampled to make this scrumptious chocolate journey complete.
