SOLD OUT: Valentine’s Day Concert – Love’s Delights: Courtly Elegance in the Baroque

The performance embodies the essence of courtly love: a tender interplay of passion, restraint, and reverence, as timeless as the music itself. Join us at the Hammond-Harwood House for a Valentine’s Day celebration steeped in elegance and romance.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with the Empressa Ensemble in a captivating program exploring themes of love, longing, and devotion through the elegance of Baroque music. The program highlights the refined beauty of Baroque masters Rameau, Couperin, Monteverdi, and Strozzi. Hear the intricate ornamentation of French salon music, moving Italian laments, and the evocative storytelling of Louis-Nicolas Clérambault’s Orphée. Join us for an evening of timeless artistry in one of Annapolis’s most historic settings.

Featuring guests’ artists:
Elissa Edwards, soprano – celebrated for her ‘plaint and seductive voice’ (Gramophone, UK)
Shelby Yamin, violin – a specialist in 18th-century technique, with performances at Versailles and Lincoln Center.
Wade Davis, cello – a leading interpreter of historical string performance.
Tom Sheehan, harpsichord – Cathedral Organist at Washington National Cathedral and an acclaimed early music performer.
Space is limited, seating is open.
